Chapter 4 of 14

Rules of a strong WiFi password

Six do's and don'ts that decide if your key holds up.

  • Use 16+ random characters

Mix upper, lower, digits and symbols. Length is the single biggest factor.

  • Generate it — don't invent it

Human-chosen passwords cluster around predictable patterns even when they feel random.

  • Make it unique to this network

Never reuse a vault, email, or admin password as the WiFi key.

  • Don't use names, dates or company info

'Acme2024!' is in every wordlist within hours of being chosen.

  • Don't rely on 'l33t speak'

Cracking tools apply every common substitution automatically.

  • Don't share it in Slack or email

Both are searchable, exportable, and survive long after employees leave.
