Is WPA3 backwards compatible with old devices?+
Most consumer routers offer 'WPA2/WPA3 transition mode' so legacy clients can still join over WPA2 while modern clients use WPA3. Use it unless every device on your network is WPA3-capable.
Should I hide my SSID?+
No meaningful security benefit. Hidden SSIDs are trivially discoverable and make legitimate clients leak the network name everywhere they go.
Is MAC filtering useful?+
Not as a security control. MAC addresses are sent in cleartext and easily spoofed. Use it only as a convenience layer, never instead of a strong key.
Can I use a passphrase like four random words?+
Yes — a 4–5 word Diceware-style passphrase gives strong entropy and is easier to type. Make sure the words are randomly chosen, not human-picked.
Does my router's 'WPS' button matter?+
Disable WPS. Its PIN mode has well-known vulnerabilities that bypass even a strong WiFi password.
