Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
An extra security layer requiring a second form of verification (such as a TOTP code or push notification) in addition to a password when logging in.
Two-factor authentication adds a second verification step to the login process. After entering a password (something you know), you must provide a second factor: a TOTP code from an authenticator app (something you have), a biometric scan (something you are), or a push notification to a registered device.
2FA dramatically reduces account compromise. Even if a password is phished, leaked, or guessed, the attacker still needs the second factor. Different 2FA methods have different security levels: hardware security keys > authenticator apps > SMS codes.
For teams, enabling 2FA on all critical accounts is one of the highest-impact security improvements. When combined with a team password manager that stores TOTP secrets, 2FA becomes seamless for shared accounts.
