One-Time Secret
A secure method of sharing sensitive information (like a password) via a link that self-destructs after being viewed once, preventing repeated access.
A one-time secret is a mechanism for sharing sensitive information through a URL that can only be accessed once. After the recipient views the content, the link is permanently destroyed. This prevents the information from persisting in email threads, chat logs, or browser history.
One-time secrets are ideal for sharing initial passwords, API keys, or other credentials with new team members or external partners. The ephemeral nature ensures that even if the communication channel is later compromised, the secret is gone.
For ongoing credential sharing, a team password manager is more appropriate, but one-time secrets fill the gap for ad-hoc, one-off sharing needs.
