Magic Link
A passwordless authentication method where a one-time login link is sent to a user's email address, allowing them to sign in without a password.
Magic links are a passwordless authentication method where users enter their email address and receive a one-time login URL. Clicking the link authenticates the user without requiring a password. The link typically expires after a short period (5-15 minutes) and can only be used once.
Magic links shift the security burden to the email account: if the user’s email is compromised, so is their access. For this reason, magic links work best when combined with a secure email account protected by MFA.
For teams, magic links can simplify onboarding (no password to create or share) but may not suit all use cases. Shared team accounts, for example, still require traditional credentials stored in a team password manager.
