CAPTCHAs are deployed on login pages, registration forms, and comment sections to prevent automated attacks like credential stuffing and brute force. They add friction for attackers while keeping access relatively smooth for legitimate users.
While CAPTCHAs slow down automated attacks, they’re not a standalone defense. They should be combined with rate limiting, account lockouts, strong passwords, and MFA. Modern AI can solve many CAPTCHA types, so invisible risk-based approaches are increasingly preferred.
