Biometric authentication leverages measurable biological traits to verify identity. Common methods include fingerprint scanning (Touch ID), facial recognition (Face ID), iris scanning, and voice recognition. Unlike passwords, biometrics cannot be forgotten, shared, or easily replicated.
However, biometrics are not without risk. If a biometric template is compromised, it cannot be “reset” like a password. This is why biometrics are best used as one factor in multi-factor authentication rather than as a sole authenticator.
In team environments, biometrics can unlock a password manager vault on each member’s device, ensuring that even if a device is lost, the vault remains protected by the owner’s unique biological signature.
